There are a number of theories in counselling and psychotherapy that suggest that the foetus can indeed pick up on both the emotions and the voice of the mother, and that this can affect the foetus' emotional and psychological development. I have not, as yet, read papers that give evidence but it is widely discussed.

I would suggest looking looking at sites from the therapeutic areas such as Transpersonal Psychotherapy, Object Relations may have some information as to current thinking as may Transactional Analysis nd devolpmental psychology.

Sorry I cannot be more specific here

As a doctor, I feel that the biggest thing to effect the fetus is the stress level of the mother. The very best way for you to have a happy and healthy baby other than taking care of your own health is to try your level best to not stress out over stuff. Don't do it. As far as communication with a fetus, there have been lots of studies but no concrete results, only various peoples' interpretations of the results.

Yes of course.

Its quite common for pregnant women to play music to their unborn fetus - placing headphones on the bump.

Also, the fetus reacts to splashing in the bath

Of course she can! A mother is the person that has the most intimate bond with her child, right from the beginning. Make the most of every second, while they're in the womb and when they're out.

Yes, she can talk to the baby, rub her bump. If I ever got stressed I used to rub my bump and say sorry for gettin worked up.

I played my son music and hummed nice songs when I was going about my day to day business.
