After reading all the replies from many of you about Messi and his potential as a player, it seems most of you agree on it that Messi is a young prodigy for Argentina who has got superb skills. My question is : Why did Pekerman leave someone like Messi out of so many games who has got such immense talent ? Do you think that was a tactical blunder from Pekerman to leave Messi out ? Or do you agree with Pekerman's decision ? If you agree, please share with me Pekerman why you thought Pekerman did the right thing by leaving Messi out in the WC games.

i like messi and think he's got lots of potential but he has an erratic game and pekerman probably didn't want to gamble on that. plus he's quite young and lacks the experience. i saw one game in '05 (i think it was barca vs. udinese) where it was obvious from the start he was having an off day but it was really appalling even for an off day. he couldn't handle the tackles, made turn-overs galore, and he made quite a few shots but none were on target. i think he has to develop a consistency to his game. he's a nervous player at times and no one can rely on that if the stakes are too great...jmho

Pekerman messed up and he knew he messed up bad so that's why he resigned right after Germany's game. Argentina had Germany under control. Germany's defense would not have been able to keep up with Lionel Messi's fresh legs and his ball handling. He brought in Julio Cruz because of his height advantage. Germany has the tallest defenders in the world and Pekerman thought he did the right hting, but he blew it. Argentina played the best soccer because of their depth and unfortunately, Pekerman ruined everything for the Argentinians. Last but not least, he's a great coach and he just did the worst he could by not bringing Lionel Messi.

Pekerman admitted that he had made a tactical blunder by letting Cruz in because of his height to try 'holding' to the 1-0. I agree with those who said that Messi would have done better by keeping the offensive pressure on the Germans instead of waiting for them defensively. I also think the forced substitution of Abondancieri made him insecure.

Same reason Holland left Van Nistelrooy out for the last game...

Messi would have probably scored in the game had he played (i put him in for my fantasy team too :( ..how sad, huh?)

A lot of the coaches screwed up...
Pekerman just took a chance, a bad one...but a chance nonetheless.

Just like Trezeguet...Domenech will regret screwin' him up during France's run @ the Cup ...

lets be a little rational
messi is great but he lacks experience hes too young
the coach made the mistake of replacing riquelme without reason .
and put in a player that is not a playmaker
he should at least have sent in aimar or as a second choice messi

i think that pekerman needed some expiriance there, i mean messi is still young and there were some players with expiriance that he needed to use

Cause he was retarded. they could've beat Germany if he put Messi in and didn't take Crespo out.
