I AM 5'TALL FEMALE. IHAVE A MASTERS DEGREE AND CURRENTLY WORKING ON MY THESIS FOR MY DOCTORATE. I HAVE A JOB WHERE THE MALES ARE SEEN AS MORE CREDIBLE, GIVEN MORE PROFESSIONAL RESPECT THAN ME--WHO IS MORE COMPETENT AND QUALIFIED. I THINK IN GENERAL, SHORTER PEOPLE SEEM TO HAVE STRUGGLES W/CREDIBILITY. MY HEIGHTH AND MY APPEARANCE ALSO MAKES ME LOOK "YOUNGER" THAN i AM AND THAT HAS WORKED AGAINST ME, ESP WHEN I'M WORKING W/THOSE TWICE OLDER. I THINK AS HUMAN BEINGS, WE ALL DESERVE RESPECT, BUT I JUST THINK THAT IN THIS SOCIETY THERE ARE SO MANY NOTIONS SURROUNDING HEIGHTH AND PHYSICAL APPEARANCE--IT'S RIDICULOUS. THERE HAVE BEEN STUDIES WHICH HAVE SUPPORTED MY CONTENTIONS--THAT TALLER PEOPLE GET MORE PAY FOR EQUAL EDUCATION AND SKILLS (ANOTHER WORDS, E/EVERYTHING BEING EQUAL, THE GUY WHO HAS SOME INCHES GET A BIGGER PAYCHECK) WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR EXPERIENCE ?h

Perhaps it comes from a generalization that "bigger is better". Physical height is significantly related to measures of social esteem , leader emergence, and performance. Height is somewhat more strongly related to success for men than for women.

You are also competing with men- they will get the attention over a 5 foot tall woman anyday. Women have to be twice as good as a man to do the same job. It sucks, but it's true. You are also getting the 'little girl' attitude for them. They think you're too cute to be serious. Good luck.
