Because in order to make pots of money, the media have made it that way! There are so many so called 'stars' these days, that have merely made it from appearing on reality shows, running about on a football field or from becoming the wife or girlfriend of a well known footballer or 'pop star', that appear on TV or in magazines and news papers, that are constantly referred to as 'beautiful'...and we the public fall for it every time and run out to buy the cosmetics/clothes they are advertising or risk our life's on expensive cosmetic surgery .... even though we all know the pictures have been hair-brushed to perfection....the worlds gone mad!
But are looks really that important? In the real world if you attend an interview for a 'real' job, appearance, personality and the way you present yourself are much more important than looks! ...After all who would you rather buy that freshly made sandwich at lunch time from...the pretty lady with the attitude, dirty nails, and scruffy clothes or the friendly, well groomed 'not as pretty' lady with the nice smile!

Thats easy. It's 'free and easy" Unlike getting to know someone's spiritual side or their personality or their bad traits...with looks you can see someone for a split second, without either of you speaking a word...and feel like you know something about them. Everything else takes time, talking, etc.

Also, people DO try to convey things by how they look. Not all, but some folks wear skimpy clothes to get folks to notice them (not usually because it's too hot to wear bermuda shorts and a tank top) even if they rant because an old man is eyeing them. Or a kid might wear all black with purple lipstick and their hair shaved off on the sides, to look different and 'tough' or 'unique' even tho this look has been around forever.

Nobody has the right to judge anybody else. Perhaps you are young and maybe follow fashion as dictated by your peers. Do you dress the same as you friends. Sometimes girls run in packs and wear identical clothes and make up. The only antidote to this attitude is not to care what other people think - be aware that others may be wondering what you think of them. It is ridiculous.. As long as you don't hurt anyone just enjoy life. Is kate moss happy.

I agree with the first guy. Blame the media. They make it seem like you have to be absolutely perfect to be pretty. But what exactly is perfection when it comes to beauty? There is no perfect, although a lot of people will say otherwise.

Unless people are PERFECT, then they shouldn't judge other's.

Besides, those famous people DON'T REALLY LOOK LIKE THAT!!! It's called MAKEUP, and a lot of it.

Actually more to the point, how is it that the media plays such an active part in how you should look, act, dress and feel. How did they get that much power? Obviously we gave it to them because we do what they say, if we didn't it wouldn't matter what we dressed like. Most women dress for other women rather than to impress men. They know men don't really care what women wear, they'll still spend most of their time thinking about what you look like without clothes. Men are usually visual creatures and women are usually auditory. I tend to be attracted to women who can think first. But that's just me.

Does it really matters? I mean with all those things like make-ups, surgery and other artificial stuff that makes you look like America's next top model or Manhunt.. It doesn't really matters anymore.. We can't tell the difference based on a person natural beauty anymore so why judge?

Humans are visual creatures, it's how we were made..so we naturally react more to either things we find appealing, or things we find quite unusual...

Granted, appearance doesn't automatically = a good person or a bad person (or any other type of person) but if a particular group of people is known for looking a certain way, and acting a certain way, then it's likely if you look similar to those people, it will be assumed you act like them too.

We tend to judge by appearances initially because we have learned to be critical in our selection of the type of people we choose, or want, to be with. You wouldn't initially want to become a friend with a stranger who was wearing filthy, tattered clothing, dirty hair and unclean skin, would you? Selective criteria is nature's way of protecting and tantalizing us. We're either repulsed by or attracted to certain people who push certain "hot" buttons in our psyche. Its not as shallow as you may think. In many cases, its probably saved you from a lot of trouble.

Because they think they are entitled. My friends all do that.

They just want to be seen with ‘eye candy’ not with someone that is wholesome. I don’t really know why. My friend is finally dating a women based on how kind and loving she is. He usually only goes for the cute ones. Most of the ‘lookers’ he hooked up with are so rude and selfish I can’t stand to be near them. A few of the ‘lookers’ are nice, but those are not the rule.

I don’t because most of the ‘lookers’ wear makeup and perfume. I am allergic. I have also observed that most ‘lookers’ are high maintenance.

because that's what TV dictates us to do, they put the best looking people on TV, make everyone dress in a certain style, and call that, the way it should be. When infact the way it should be is everyone dressing how they want to, and people been judged on how they act, not how they look.
