I believe you will find that the jet stream is very far north right now and as it dips further south we get more moderate temperatures. When I lived in NM it seemed like every time in the winter that the jet stream dropped that far south, we got dumped on with a storm. A lot of factors lead to a heat wave.

It's Summer. You'll find elevated temperatures, in the Northern Hemisphere, this time of year. This will continue through August, then the temperatures will become more moderate. In the November-February time frame, expect the temperatures to turn increasingly colder, with large areas experiencing snow and icy conditions. After February, temperatures will once again become more moderate. Expect higher temperatures to return next Summer.

This pattern will repeat annually.

Since the 70's volcanic activity throughout the entire planet has increased 400%. Since 75-80% of the planet's surface is underwater - that can lead to an increase in water temperature, which can lead to changes in weather patterns and temperature.

This phenomenona might have a significant effect on global warming.
