he wasnt there all the time in germany as a hostage and granted it was a lot of money in those days but perhaps i should have given specific dates, however ...it made many good movies.

It`s an interesting fact that throughout the reign of Richard he only ever spent a total of 6 months in England.
He died in battle but was held to ransom in AUSTRIA ,it was only through the actions of his minstrel Blondel that anyone in England knew he was being held to ransom.

But actually, he didn't spend much time in England even when he WAS free. He considered the country to be one of his minor possessions and was much more interested in the holdings he inherited on the Continent.
