When I pull down on the string to turn on the light nothing happens. It won't click or anything. Can it be fixed? or is it time to say bye bye?

the other answeres are good ones, but I have $3.00 solution for you. Inside the area where the wiring is, is a part the operates the how the chains work. If that part wears out, your light and or fan will not work. it's easy to fix. may take 10 min. to fix. If thats not whats wrong you only wasted $3.00, then you can get the new light kit.

It's cheaper to replace the light fixture than to replace the whole fan unit. The light kits can be purchased at Lowe's or Home Depot. I've changed mine twice on my fan simply due to not liking the design anymore. The kits cost about $50, depending on the style name. A new fan with lights can cost $100 or more.

it's call a light kit and if you take the cap off and look at it you will see that it has a special plug that only goes on one way. If you can figure out how to get the old one off, (should only be screws and the plug) take it with you to the HW store and get a replacement.

Remember when wireing a fan ,Black is hot, White is common, green is ground, and blue is the light.ask an electrician to check it .
Lowes have kits at reasonable prices if pull switch has broken.
