An hour and and half isn't that far you could easily do weekends together, I think that its when you will have to get on a plane to see each other that it might not work. I also think that the amount of time the relationship stays long distance is a factor if they work.

Good grief! An hour and a half is not a long distance relationship! I mean, sure, you can't just pop in and run down to the park for a picinic, but you can plan your time, and the anticipation will make it that much sweeter.

Yes they work if both people are dedicated to making them work. I was with a boy for 2 years and he lived 14 hours away from me.

It didn't work for me.
But you are not me (i can hear your applause from here, by the way).....and 1 1/2 hours isn't all that far away.
If it's supposed to work, i think you'll find a way to make it work.
(Aside: with your employment situation in flux right now.....any chance of moving, say, 1 1/2 hours away?)

It works if you make it work. A relationship works with both parties involved. And seeing how "far" you really are from each other, you have a good chance that it can.

They can, but you need ample time to make it a "short distance" relationship befor jumping in.

It really depends if both of you are willing to commute. If not, then it's not really going to work.
I had one of those once and my friends and family kind of got tired of driving me out there. His friends and family to got tired of it and we decided to be "just friends" afterwards...roughly translated as "we'll never see each other again".
But don't take my experience as your answer- it works for some people but not all.
Good luck
