Sometimes the truth can hurt... sometimes it does more harm then good... but at other times it can be for the better. I think it depends on each individual situation. Lieing isn't always the answer... nor is avoiding the topic... It's like the little devil on your right shoulder...and the guardian angel on your left. You have to weigh out the possiblities... and hope for the best. :-)
If the truth could really hurt someone... make sure you let them know in advance that you thought it was for the best... that you didn't intentionally mean direct harm. Might ice over... might not... better then left to wonder "what if"....
