in india there is a common jibe " oh god, is it my old same hub i got even on a festive night???". doesnt it show the secret wishes of family women?

in future, if there are more women and fewer men, rekha u have to share ur hubby.

Actually, maybe you've heard something I have not, but in my anthropology courses, I learned that only one culture practiced this in Africa and it doesn't work out too well. The reason is that there tend to be a few less men than women and since women are the ones who bear children, if several men are tied to one woman, the race will eventually die out.

No, I don't think it will be more widespread because women do better without a husband than men do without a wife. Besides, women largely have willingly made themselves sexual objects while men tend to pursue more intelligent paths.

I doubt it, those cultures (I can think of the Nepalese Sherpa's as an example) there are some pretty specific circumstances.
Just like in the Middle East in the 7th Century A.D., there were some mitigating circumstance which led to the clause that Muslims may have up to 4 wives.

In most societies, those circumstances don;t exist so I doubt you will see polygamy become common in Western society anytime soon.

I somewhat doubt it. In most cultures the number of women outnumber the number of men. Think how irate all the women who do not have husbands would be over all the women who have more than their share.

Then there is the problem of jellous husbands. They would probably be killing each other over the opportunity to have a crack at their wife.

Why only with some cultures - you can see that happening in the most advanced but cultureless societies as well :) so, considering the fact that the world can be divided in to two parts - one with culture, and the other culture less, every where it is present. Like you said, it is there in some cultures, and I say it is there in culture less society.

The number of women in those countries are very less than men, and that's why one woman may have multiple husbands. It is vice versa in our society. So you should think about men who should have multiple wives.!

In hindu mythology Pandavas ( 5 brothers) had one wife and every one shared her. that is she had 5 hubbies. They leave the shoes outside so others know who is inside. That's where the custom leaving shoes outside house came in to existence.

How many husbands you have?
Is there a vacancy for one more

Also some cultures allow men to have many wives, but in England there are laws that protect us men from this.

In our current do-anything culture, I'm surprised that polygamy hasn't been legalized yet. I, personally, wish it was at this point!
