Photography is a very wide subject. There are different fields. Suppose if you like taking photograph of Wedding or Anniversary, or Nature(Plant, Flower) etc. Then try to use talents in that particular field.

In short if you are in USA then I suggest New York Institute of Photography or another one I Brooks institute of Photography.

By your question I think you want income by photography which let you travel. These kinds of jobs are offered by so many firms and people. They pay you for photographs.

I request you better look at the link one which is IFPO, I also belong to this. By visiting this web you could have some knowledge. Then you could also get information about photography by click the second link below.

It is common thinking that for photography costly camera is needed I don't think so, I say man behind camera no matter what.
Having a camera depends on your budget.
As everything is getting digitalized why not have digital camera which can be connected to computer and you can edit photos easily even can print at home.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Photographers Market Guide to Building Your Photography Business: Everything you need to know to run a successful photography business by Vik Orenstein
* Legal Handbook for Photographers: The Rights and Liabilities of Making Images Paperback by Bert P. Krages
* How to Start a Home-Based Photography Business, 4th Paperback by Kenn Oberrecht
* Shooting & Selling Your Photos: The Complete Guide to Making Money With Your Photography by Jim Zuckerman

I also posted links to some free articles in the source box.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

1. Talk to people who are in the biz to know what the job really entails.

2. Take an introductory course at a local college;
Learn the basics about photography.
(How to use a manual SLR camera, a Darkroom.)

3. Explore what field in photography you are interested in.
(Travel photography, Photojournalism, Fashion/Studio.)

4. Visit bookstore and browse through publications, magazines, etc.
(Arnold Newman, Anne Leibowitz, National Geographic.)

Check out flickr.com. They have wide array of photographers,
ranging from beginners to industry pros. You can ask them
questions, leave comments, and upload your own work
to gain feedbacks. Plus, you get to meet some pretty cool
people... :-)

Get a photography degree from a good four-year university. Then, email Jeremy Cowart (http://www.jeremycowart.com) and load him up with your questions. Ok...don't load him up. He's a busy photographer. But I'm sure he wouldn't mind answering a few of your questions.
