Can I just plug in a USB from the old comp to the new one and click and drag old data from the old comp to the new comp?

no and if you could it would take forever. get a dvd burner and burn it. it'll make everythig much more easier and faster

There's actually a much much faster way to do it. If you have a crossover ethernet cable you can connect the two pcs together and get transfer rates of about 8mb/s way faster than usb.
