I'm a tech myself, but I don't have an AOL account to play around with, and I don't want one. I'm the type of tech that usually needs to play with hardware/software before I can be confident about it. I've seen system slowdowns and Internet Explorer problems that seem to be from AOL.
What are your thoughts?

Other than the software being totally "bloated" and useless. It "embeds" itself into everything on the PC, like mail, your browser, and it is ALWAYS running in the background, so if you want to open any other apps... it takes forever for them to open.

Another thing is that when you "un install" it, you also need to get a reg cleaner because there are still a ton of files on the computer that can still affect the way the computer runs.

Good luck ....

Well I can confirm that AOL is seriously bloated. I had a customer complaining that her $2000 laptop took over a 45 seconds just to open up word. I timed it and it was in fact taking that long. I removed AOL and the time was reduced to just under two seconds. At her insistence I reinstalled just the latest version and the time again jumped to over 30 seconds. I think we can confirm two things from this, the AOL program seriously compromises performance and the upgrade procedures are not effective in removing unneeded processes.

well since i used to work for aol i can answer this
the aol software is designed for people who dont have a clue about the the internet, thats why there are keywords rather than web address for people to use.
i would never have aol installed on any of my pcs since once on never able to get it all removed without a format.
if u have aol isp as your isp, u dont need to use the softwware to get online, u can make a rasphone connection by doing start run rasphone and make a new connection and use your aol email address and password to sign on with and then use any browser u want.
