There is no alcohol allowed in our house, and drinking is against program rules, as well as against the law in the States. He'll have to deal with that.

Be ready you won't undersand each other english ( they'll need few days to catch up on the accent and you'll need some time to learn to understand theirs). I had exchage student few yrs back and this was one thing that totaly freaked me out the first day. But don't worry, it goes away very fast. And enjoy, its wonderfull experience you can learn a lot from.

I agree with the accent issues, as most people are still learning textbook English and may not understand some of the phrases we use here in the states... Otherwise, depending on the size of your town, I'd get a map of the bus system (if it's safe) and the city. Show them around and definitely tell them any areas that might not be the best places to go. Make sure they know emergency numbers for your family and maybe get a prepaid calling card for emergencies. I've been on the other side of the exchange, going to families overseas, and having someone show me around and telling me of any places to avoid is definitely helpful. Also, talk to the phone company and/or look for some of those prefix numbers to call for cheaper overseas calling, because it can be VERY expensive!!! Hope y'all have a good time together! :-)

I have to ask. What the Hell are you getting in Exchange?
Seems like you are getting the raw end of the deal in this Endeavor.
