I had the same problem! I tried using the yellow "bug lights", but I still had lots of bugs around the light. I bought some outdoor bug spray stuff and i spray the outside of my door, windows, and just the outside of my house on the porch area. The spray usually will help for about three days, then i have to re-spray everything. I finally decided to just leave the light off. I believe it has reduced the number of bugs around my door, but i'm really not sure cause with the light off i cant see them anyway.

I rent my house, but if i owned it i would invest in one of the motion sensor activated lights. I believe it would be better than leaving the light off. I have a hard time seeing to put my key in the door without any light, so i've been keeping a small flashlight with me.

My main problem is mosquitos, and i live next to a large drainage canal/ditch thing and it holds some water all of the time. Mosquitos breed in standing water and there's no way for me to make that water go away.

I am actively searching for a new place to live though

Put up a motion sensor light. That way it will only come on when someone is near and the bugs won't be congregating as much.

Better yet, don't turn on the light at all. Problem solved.

Use a yellow "bug light" bulb...

Try putting a few carnivourous plants like Venus flytraps or Pitcher plants near your porch for some passive, all natural bug deterrent!

Install a bug zapper near the light. Also, if you turn the light off, the bugs disappear.

The easy thing to do is use a yellow colored light bulb. It won't attract the bugs.

Get a yellow "bug" bulb. It is less attractive to bugs than regular incandescent.
