I've had all except the Volvo so I think I have some good advise.
Basically the Audi is a VW. Nice very quite cars that are really cool but expensive to fix, prone to more problems like oil leaks, cold start problems, etc. The A4 is nice. Resale is high but it will lose it's value after a few years more rapidly than the others. Insurance cost is average to high. Get a 5 speed not the automatic. Trust me. By the way Porsche, VW and Audi all suffer reliability problems and are expensive to fix. It's like saying Pontiac, Chevy and Buick in American. They come from the same place. I love them all including my old VW Scirrocco and Porsche 914 but they are high maintenance.
BMW is my favorite but they are very very expensive to work on or have fixed. They are much more reliable than Audi. They resale higher so a BMW will hold it's value best of the three but this also means they are more expensive for you to buy. The insurance will most likely be the highest of the three because of the high repair cost for full coverage. If you plan to buy a Bimmer and keep it forever then it is your best choice next to the Saab because it will hold it's value.
Saab is also a favorite of mine. They are easy to work on if that's your thing. They are not real bad to have repaired but a little more specialized than say a Chevy. They resell good but if you want used you can steal an older one that will hold it's value. Check out Saabnet.com for advise. If you buy used I would try to get a newer 9-5 model if possible. If you are on a budget go for an older 9000 turbo. Don't be afraid of the turbo if it runs good when you look at it. The 900's and 9-3 models are nice also but don't have all the bells and whistles of the 9-5 or 9000. These are about the safest on the road. The insurance is the cheapest of any you are looking at, because of the repair cost and safety factor. The 9-5 is nicer than any 3 series BMW except the M3 of course. The 9-3 viggen is the best 9-3 model.
Volvos are good but expensive to work on. They tend to need more work than Saabs. I don't know as much about them except I do know when I have my wife's Saab in for service at the dealership that there are 10 Volvo customers waiting for cars to every 1 Saab owner? My unofficial poll. I really like the S40 but I think the Saab is a better car.
I currently have a 1995 9-3 5 door and a 2001 9-5 Turbo Wagon. This should tell you something since I've had a few of each of these. We've had 5 Saabs over the last 20 years. They are great, plus not everyone in town has one. My 16 year old drives old the 9-3 and loves it. Also Ebay is a good place to get a deal on any of these.

Driving a volvo is about as exciting as an afternoon nap. Saab's are worthless in my opinion. I'd say BMW or Audi because they are fun to drive and very nice to look at on the inside and out.

From my experience I would say that the Saab is the best bang for your buck. It is pretty well balanced between safety, power (especially if you opt for the Aero), handling, and it looks cool (or at least I think it does), and I personally enjoy their "quirkiness" and most people that ride in mine also enjoy it.. like the ignition in the center console, How cool is that?! I find the 325 to be under powered for my taste. I have actually never driven and A4 so I can't really tell you anything about that, but the A6 is a nice car. The s40 is not a bad car for the price and the power is acceptable but I wasn't impressed with the fun to drive factor, it just wasn't there. My advice would be to go test drive some, that usually helps in the decision making process.

Saab and Volvo are excellent cars in safety,
Audi is also an excellent car but it's still a VW.
I will go for the BMW, the new shape doesn't look nice but best engine, best gearbox. I like the BMW's technology.
I drive a Mercedes. Consider a Merc.

Audi A4! or volvo. because Saabs are unpopular and worthless, or so i think. BMWs are just expensive show offs, like mercedes.
But i have to agree, BMW does have a good engine and drivetrain. Still, i prefer audi a4.

BMWs are the "Ultimate Driving Machine". It the ultimate driving experience with its road hugging suspension, access to unbelievable horsepower and torque, and sleek racing design.
The thing I love about BMW is that their designs never get old.
If you are going for the BMW E46 (1999-2005) 325i. Check out a 1999 BMW 328i same body style just different headlights compared to the 2002-2005 models.
Also check out the BMW coupes (ci) and AWD sedans (xi). It all depends on your budget.
Good Luck.
