Usually, the light will go out on it's own after awhile if the problem has been fixed correctly. If the light stays on, it's most likely a broken connection or wire that needs to be resoldered or replaced. I had the same problem with an oxygen sensor and found the two connecting wires were barely connected. Good Luck, Oh and by the way, AutoZone cannot reset it for you if you have smog checks in your state. It's illegal.

Unplug both negative and positive post from battery .
This method has a 50/50 chance of working.
If it doesn't ,try it again only this time hold both cable ends together for about 5-10 min. This will dissipate any capacitors that maybe keeping the memory alive.
If this still doesn't work you'll need a scan tool.
P.S. most auto parts store will read the code for you , but won't clear it.

Pull the battery out, that is the best way to reset the computer. Be careful though, your radio will reset, and you might want to make sure you have the code for that first.
You should you the diagnostic tool, just call around and see if there is a company in your area that will reset it for free. In Michigan there is Autozone, and they will do it for free.

most often the "check engine" light comes on because of a bad O2 sensor. they are cheap and you can replace it yourself. then you don't have to reset anything

yes, just unplug the battery for a few, if it comes back, try unplugging it again, and if it still comes back check the code and go from there. I have had bad 02 sensors from parts stores so good luck.
