The Catholic Church believes that God does not recognize civil divorces.

"Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate." (Mark 10:9)

The term "annulment" is a misnomer because the Church does not undo or erase a marriage bond.

Rather the Church issues declarations of nullity when it discovers that the parties were not truly joined by God and hence a full spiritual sacramental marriage as understood by the Church was not present.

Then the parties are free to marry for the first time.

With love in Christ.

Annulment is a state of marriage in Catholicism where the church gives dispensation to one party to say they've never been married.

Divorce is a legal condition that is recognizes as a social and financial contract between married couples and if one party wants out of the marriage the contract is void or adapted to divorce status.. In most states divorce can happen for any reason, most notably "Unreconciable differences".. These are defined as "no-fault" judgements. If kids are not involved both parties can walk away with 1/2 the marital financial assets..And be free of entanglements.
