The world woud be much better if it were open to diversity. But there you go. I think you just phrased it in your little paragraph there. The majority of the modeling/acting population is white, skinny, and tall. (Which I personally have nothing against being all three) But it would be very nice, actually extremely good to see more diversity.

What I always find interesting is that white women and "pale" women tan, plump their lips up, are getting "booty" implants now...but, still can't seem to find any other women of color to put on their magazines that the usual suspects: Halle Berry, Tyra Banks, Eva Longoria, and J.Lo. I think it was an extraordinarily big step for magazines to even put Queen Latifah on the cover.
I don't think designers and magazine editors keep in mind that the average size woman IS A 14, and she isn't always white or have long legs or believe in "high fashion." They believe it is their job to set the "trends" and say "what's in," more so than cater to the average woman. Maybe if they started receiving more mail from consumers blasting their magazines, we'd see a change. But, for now, that's just the way it is...

I agree. Ever look at a plus size catalog, like Lane Brynat, or Roamans. Clothing for large women, modeled by slender women---very strange. I wish women would take the fashion world back from gay men and put REAL women that we can relate to in the public eye. Also, as you say more women of color, all sizes, all figures.
Miss Universe? DIdn't see that or hear of it. I think real beauty has nothing to do with color, but carriage, integrity and self-respect.
Good question by the way

i used to be very skinny and very short too. i am now med. weight and still short and i seem to have a hard time finding things i really like to wear because every thing is made for skinny and tall people . they need to make more inbetween sizes and for shorter people so we can enjoy what every one else does.
also more end more women today are judged today by there upper front and lower backsides. i once said if i did not want to be judged by my looks i would have to marry and blind man he would get to know the real me.

In fact, Dove have already set about doing this, using women of all shapes, sizes, cultures, ages and heights. I think it's about time people knew that real women do not only come in a size 2!

that is like asking "why can't there be world peace?"...it's just not going to happen. Tall, skinny supermodels are what's pleasing to the eye. Although 90% of normal woman can't relate to that body/look, it's what used out there to make clothes look good.
i'm thin too....but very petite and not tall. victoria's secret models make me jealous!! i wish i could become 5 inches taller!

hell yeah! the media now-a-days as put it into our minds that skinny and tall is how youre supposed to look this is why we have so many problems with women (mostly young teens) becoming anorexic or bulimic or even thinking about suicide, or cutting themselves because of their self-image. i dont look like paris, or nicole, or j-lo so i must go cut myself and throw up. NO THATS NOT HOW IT SHOULD BE! girls shouldnt be judged for their weight hell neither should guys. why do people stress to become something they just arent. if we had more curvy women to idolize like we do the rail-thin we would all be happier

I think it would be great if the fashion industry spent less time designing fashions for twiggy shaped girls and more time designing fashions for shorter and heavier body types which are more common.

yes!!!!!!!!!!!! because girls are all different and by only using girls that are skinny, it makes everyone else think that's how they need to be. The truth is that those girls aren't even like that(computer generated). Take Abercrombie and Fitch for example, all there models are skinny Caucasian girls (there's only 1 African American girl i believe) and that makes everyone think that they need to be skinny white girls to shop there. If you ask me modeling, etc. is racist towards girls that aren't skinny and smaller than "normal girls".
