I have an idea for a webite, it will be based around visitors becoming members, as well as customers.
How to i set up the site to accept customer registration and sales fees?
Who monitors this once its set up? Do i need to oversee each transaction or does it happen automatically once set up?
any advice will be greatfully accepted, thanks in advance

I don't recomend anyone who hasnt been properly trained in sequre internet communications and handling to attempt to create sites wich accept account details. Even the experts in sequre sales over the internet muck up every now and again. You would end up with countless angry emails from people whos details have been leaked by youre site. A good acount system made by a web developer would not require manual supervision, every thing would be automatic. Youre only chance of success with these websites is to do a course or pay some one to make youre site.

The way i would do it:
1. Refine my idea until it is as good as it can be

2. Build my own server and set up perl scripts to deal with members and databases

3. Get a sequre system to deal with accounts, like a bank

4. Design a decent looking site which is graphicaly appealing
whilst probaly using java applets to communicate with the server

If you don't have experience in a back end system and database management, hire web developers. Otherwise you can manage this yourself using the above technologies. You won't need to monitor each transaction, depending on what the transactions are for.

you should see a web developer for something like that, and once it is set up, you shouldn't have to monitor it as the code will make sure that everything is done properly, you'll basically have to design how you want it, and give them the idea, the rest should work itself out...

I hope that helps you.
