I heard that pain from endometriosis is similar to labor pain... is this true?

I have most of the obvious symptoms of endo. I'm going in this month to talk to a gyn about it. I had appendicitis last year and I had to pretend like the pain was worse than it was, because compared to my monthly pains, it was nothing (and the doctors wouldn't take me seriously if I told them it was nothing compared to cramps!)

It is very painful, and yes the pain was worse than giving birth to my 3 children (drug-free). I had a complete hystrectomy because of severe Endo, which a hystrectomy doesnt always cure endometeriosis because Endo can grow on other parts of your organs as well. So please do your research, because i hate for any women to have to go through menapause at age 25 like me. I just pray every day that it dosent return..... But I do thank GOD everyday that i was able to have 3 kids before i had my hystrectomy... Some women cannot conceive because of this condition.

I'm sorry you are in so much pain. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia several years ago, but experienced symtoms for about 14 years. Mine started with a back problem, and like you, took several rounds of oral steriods with temporary relief. My symtoms have changed over the years, however, poor sleep, pain issues, fatigue and weight gain (60 lbs) are the constant ones. Had many tests, none conclusive. Things that have helped me cope are: medications - ambien for sleep; Lexapro - seems to stop some of the pains signals to the brain; Naproxen- for inflammation not related to fibro; muscle relaxers as needed and Vicodin for breakthrough pain I have a small hot tub, try to stretch often and try to excercise very carefully (Yoga DVD for people with chronic pain). I wish you could find some answers - I have a really great GP who understands and really listens to me. I hope this helps you, I know how you feel.

yes it is very painful i have been diagnosed with it about a month ago and i have to take birth control pills to help with the pain. and if i miss one i'll know immediatley the pain is more intense. the hormones in the pills does something to ease the pain but it still doesn't take it completely away. i am presently looking into having some kind of procedure to get rid of the endo. hope oyu don't have it it is a struggle, sometimes i can't even walk for the intense pain. good luck
