Did you mean an Automated Teller Machine, or Async Transfer Mode?

If the former, suggest things to your bank, and if it looks like a money maker, maybe they'll include them in the programming for the machine.

If you mean Async Transfer Mode, keep in mind that ATM is *standardized*, so that gear from other vendors will talk to each other. Between that, and the fact that ATM is at a pretty low level in the OSI 7-layer burrito (on a par with 'Ethernet'), there's not a lot of things you can really do to improve it. Also, the basic Internet design is "smarts at the edge" - routers and switches are pretty dumb, and basically just forward packets of data. Most of the groundbreaking work in things like congestion avoidance is properly done at the TCP level in the end nodes - where you have more smarts and more information available regarding what you want the net to do for you.
