Absolutely and that is why i hate modern medicine because there are so many kids that are missing a serious part of thier mental developement. I have learned to embrace pain as beauty because if this world doesnt trouble you then your not a part of it.

Do you mean pain as a physical ailment or just the trial and tribulations of life? If its the latter, well how can you appreciate the good if you didn't know what it was. How would you know what good is or when it's happening to you if you did not have the bad. Is pain the best teacher no neccesarily, but you should learn something from it, if only not to do whatever caused the pain in the first place.

I guess it depends on what sort of pain you are referring to. I remember hearing about certain christian camps who would use painful shock therapy on members of the church who admitted they were gay and came to them for "help."
I think pain in religion can be used as a tool to control, rather than any sort of healing or learning tool.
Its different if a child touches a hot stove and through the burn, learns not to touch things that are hot. They learn about consequence, cause and action.
As far as the spiritual and emotional affects, sometimes going through a traumatic, painful event can make you view the world differently, which in turn might be a healthy change.
I dont know. i think its all relative.
Tool says "Pain is an illusion."

Life will teach us via whatever method works, whatever method we listen to. Of course, it's a lot more fun to learn via pleasure. Being one who loves to love, I find true love is a wonderful teacher of all things spiritual. However, sometimes it takes a little pain to get our attention. We can go down easy, or we can go down hard, just depends on what it takes to get the lesson. The faster the lesson is learned, the sooner we can get back to loving and pleasure. Because, ultimately the lesson is all about love. There are some exercises that one can do to open the heart to love and gain greater awareness spiritually to reduce the necessary pain. Please feel free to contact me for more information.

pain can be a great maturer and teacher. After undergoing cancer treatment, i felt stronger, maturer, spiritualer. I grew as a person. the pain made me appreciate the moments in life, my future, and the little things. It also showed me how strong I could really be. It made me more in tune with myself and confident. I dont wis pain upon anyone, but i hope if they do have a emotionally or physically painful experiance, they will learn and grow with it.

God is the ultimate measure of pain. When we achieve that level, we get the opportunity to experience the Divine Being.

What's the old saw? "If it doesn't kill you, it just makes you stronger." Not my favorite way to develop spiritually...
