Einstein travelled back to 27 January 1756!
Seriously, that's the day that Mozart was born. Einstein was an expert on Mozart and his music, and wrote an acclaimed book on that subject. In that sense, he took himself back to Mozart's day to understand what he was all about.
As for real time travel... well.. I'll leave that to you. ;-)
Oh, just realized you asked how far from the future Einstein travelled back to get to the present, not how far he travelled to the past. Good question -- he was sure ahead of his time. But how far?
Let's say he travelled far enough to have been there when his famous equation "e = m c-squared" produced a big, tangible result, that is, the first nuclear explosion. That would mean he travelled back from July 16, 1945 -- the first atomic test, the famous Trinity -- to the date he published "e = m c-squared", which was September 27, 1905. Not bad... he "saw" into the future almost 40 years! (But I think he was unhappy the way it worked out.)

Great insight, I always thought he was an alien. But if he is a time traveller then so Hawking right? The chair doubles as a time machine.
