First, congrats on your pending promotion.
When you're with a customer, show interest in her search for the dress. Ask, what occasion it is for, which colors she likes, length, fabric preferences, etc. You may want to do some BASIC style research in order to suggest the best styles for your customers based on their body type, skin tone, weight, etc. That way, you will seem knowledgeable and they will seek you out. Tell them your name and remind them that if they need anything, you will be right over *** there ***.
Good luck!

Your might benefit from watching what some of the
other girls do to give you an idea on what works.
Otherwise, I'm certain your boss won't have given
you the raise if you didn't deserve it.
The best thing is to always remember that the customer
you keep must be a satisfied customer and if you want
repeat business. An idea might be would you like to
try on some accessaries. example I think this necklace
or lovely belt would really work with that dress.
Would you like to try another color. Just keep on the
topic of the product. Does your store have a mission
statement or guideline you should read to give you
some insight on what the manager is looking for.

Ask what event she will be wearing the dress to. If it's a party or a wedding, you should be able to relate to it from personal experience and strike up a conversation. If the store has a very loyal clientele, make sure you remember names and greet customers by name as they come in.
And even though you think the other girls are not stealing your sales - they are. They might be doing it on purpose. When I worked in retail I was like you at first, very nice and let everyone 'steal' my sales, but it begins to effect your performance on paper. You need to make sure you follow up with your customer.
Watch your co-worker with the most sales - imitate what she does. Good luck!

Hi!
I also worked in sales for a long time and the best thing to do, from a customer and employee point of view, just be yourself. Be nice, but most importantly, be honest. Don't try to sell the customer something that is unattractive on them. If it doesn't look good give them the right size of something more flattering. Also, be bold! It is very important that you not be shy, shy and unsocial people don't go very far, so be quick to approach and if they don't need help, give them their space, but keep an ear (not necessarily an eye) out for their call for "help, please" and you will do well. After all, your manager must have seen something in you in the first place to offer you a better position. Good Luck!

To open up conversation, how about saying, "Are you buying for a special occasion?" or "That will be a killer look on you." And go from there. It doesn't hurt to say, "Hey, nice to meet you. Remember me at the registers!" and giggle.
You also have to remember to read people well. If they don't want a (sorry) pushy sales girl on them while they shop, keep a distance and then wait for the right time to get their sale. But, hey, I'm not a retail salesperson, just a shopper speaking from experience.

Tell your sincere opinion about what the customers are trying on, they know when you are trying to pressure them to buy something they dont look well at and might runout of the store; by using your sincerity you can guide them all along...You should make conversation if the customer is chatty or try to make some comments about their style to see if they are comfortable talking to you, some people just like to concentrate on clothing and not talking to the attendant....anyways good look in your new position

An ongoing conversation... about anything! Easiest topic: clothes, their style, what they're interested in buying, etc. Make sure you tell the customer your name and have them ask for you at the register, etc. If they remember your name (say it often) they'll ask for you next time, too. Good luck. And congrats on the raise!

be honest to your customer never be fake they hate that. as for the other girls just start being true to yourself and they will get it. if they don't then they were using you. if the girls start in on you in front of the customer, tell them politely you will speak to them in 5 minutes never in front of the customer

well when they first walk in just ask if they need help with anything...if u see someone looking at something tell them how it would look on them (B NICE!!) and tell them they should try it on, treat them like a friend. Get stuff that u think they would like and show it to them.
