Find out who your friends & family use. It may save on your bill if you can make mobile to mobile calls in a network. My b/f & I have Cingular which allows me to call me sisters w/o using our minutes.

I love Revol. I've been with a couple of the big companies. They want huge deposits and there's always some extra charge on my bill that no one can explain. Sprint was the worst.
I've had Revol for a year with no complaints. 50 bucks/month, unlimited everything (texts, minutes, picture mail). No credit check or deposit. Buy phone and pay monthly. No contract either. When you don't want it anymore, just don't pay. I LOVE it.
Edit: They're still pretty new, so I think there might be places you can't use your phone yet, but if you don't travel much, like me, it doesn't matter.

P.S. I know it sounds like I work for them or something, but I swear I don't. I just love my phone and service THAT much. :)

Verizon is the most powerful and hishest rated service. Sprint it the absolute worst servicde you can possibly get along with T-Mobile. Cingular is okay but they don't go through exclusive upgrades and special tests like verizon does with their phones. Alltell is good too but not as well known. If anything you should get Verizon Wireles.

It really depends on where you live. They all have problems. There is a new one out alltel that seems to work with all of the carriers. Verizon and Cingular have decent network coverage but none of them are perfect.

When choosing a wireless carrier, you need to check each one of their coverage maps for your area. You need a provider who can give you the most coverage for the area in which you're going to use your phone most. CIngular has a coverage viewer, and this is the link: http://63.241.153.180/coverageviewer/Coverage_Map_Tool.html.
T-Mobile's is here: http://compass.tmobile.com
Other carriers maps' can be found at their respective site.

Alltel is a little more expensive (I pay just under $60/month for 700 min & 300 texts) but the service quality is worth it.
