i know dat sound is a meagre source of energy & its conversion cant be useful for commercial purposes but still i want to know that 1 decibel is equal to how many joules or ergs or else how many decibels make a joule. i mean i jus wanna measure sound in joules ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????

A decibel is a relative measure; i.e. a ratio. A decibel SPL is a decibel relative a specific sound pressure or sound intensity. The ref. sound pressure is 2e-5 Pa. The ref. sound intensity is 1e-12 watts/m^2.

So you see, you cannot convert dB SPL to joules without specifying an area and a time period. Units, units, units!!!

First define joules = 1watts/sec
dB can = almost anything depending on your reference.
0 dBm is 1 mili watt or .001 watts
0dBw is 1watt or 1 watt
loose your reference in time that joules have
