well speaking from experience i feel alive when i'm dancing, i don't feel like i have to be putting on a front for people to like me,there is the sense of freedom i get just moving across the floor. there are times when i feel like an artist just by the way my body moves when i'm dancing and the beat seems like a constant reassurance that everything in my life is perfect and right. in short it's an escape from the demanding and dangerous world.

It is a way our species performs the mating ritual. Dancing is just one of the ways humans attract a mate. It is the same as birds bobbing their heads etc.
Women are trying to entice a man by showing off her sexuality. Men are trying to show they are virile.
It is all just our animal nature.

excersize, having fun, expressing yourself, looking cool ... then again you can look like a fool ... in that case you get attention.
