Do I need a lawyer to get a divorce?

Not necessarily. Depends on how well you and your soon-to-be ex can get along and if there are children. If there are no children AND you two can agree on things, then you can get the paperwork from the courthouse Clerk's office, fill it out, file it and show up on the day of the hearing. If there are children, then a do-it-yourself kit isn't going to work well......unless, of course, you two can agree on custody, property division, child support, visitation and the like.

If you two cannot talk about things and cannot agree - then yes, you will need to get an attorney who will take you through the steps.

1. Arrange to get all your stuff out of there.
2. Stay put until you find the right time
3. Leave the relationship with your stuff.

Many governments will make you wait a year before you can get a divorce. If you have agreement from your partner that you should end the marriage, then it's great... simply agree that you've been leading separate lives for a year or more and your divorce will be granted.

If you get Lawyers involved, you will end up spending all of your marital assets on legal fees. Many lawyers offer divorce packages for $500 that will seal and end your marriage in no time.

Good luck.

It depends on your state laws. Some states have an easy uncontested divorce process where you dont have to wait for a year of legal seperation. But other states have strict laws for divorce. I would recommend a lawyer. Though they aren't cheap it is worth it in the end, especially if you have a house together, children, own land or time shares, cars, etc. There are so many factors that go into a divorce that it is easy to overlook it. Plus your spouse might get a lawyer and that would be bad if you dont have one because they can easily take advantage of you.

No, you don;t need a lawyer, but I extremely recommend legal advice during divorce procedings, specially if you have children, real state or substantial assests.

You can agree into having just one lawyer and pay half and half or even make him pay for your legal fees. The lawyer can only represent one of you buy if you work together, an uncontested divorce is unexpensive and fairly fast.

You can find default divorce petions on the internet, and just go the local court house to file. You will ahve to pay a filing fee and wait for your court date.

I know, the word lawyer might send chills down the spine, but lawyers are a necesary evil if you don't want to get screwed over.

Good luck

First you have to get married.
Then hire a lawyer to get your case filed
Then bribe your wife not to testify against you
Then bribe your lawyer to tell the truth.
Then bribe your mom in law to say you are an asshole with no income (comes in handy for alimnoy)
Then try agruing in court and calling your wife a two timer.
If all this doesnt work, simply pack up and leave for Iraq, she will file for one,

You dont need a lawyer but it is best if you get one. Just make sure everything and I mean everything is out of BOTH of your names. I am going back to court over this stuff now. She dont pay the bills that she promised to pay and it is all coming back on me. If it is in your name and they say they will pay it and dont then the banks come after you then you have to go after them to get your money back even if it is in the court papers. You got the loan they didnt. Dont settle for anything.

Decide on a lawyer

Save money for the retainer

Do not openly date anyone else unless you want the court to consider you an adulterer

Build a strong case - if alcoholism or abuse is relivant collect evidence and witnesses

If children are involved - provide best possible living conditions and character witnesses

Depends on how your spouse approaches it. If he/she show some hostility, break all communication and get a good lawyer.
