For heaven's sake, you say not too expensive and people are recommending the most expensive places. OK: NOT the Excalibur, because it has an indoor carnival for kids and it's noisy and crowded, a real zoo. NOT the Aladdin, because it's under construction (becoming the Planet Hollywood Hotel) and is kind of a mess right now. The Wynn, Bellagio, Venetian are all very expensive. For a central location and something nice, I recommend Flamingo, Harrah's, Monte Carlo, Bally's. The next higher price range would be Caesars, Paris, Mirage, and MGM Grand. I'm not sure whether New York, New York is in the 1st or 2nd group, but I think the 2nd. I've stayed at the Flamingo and Bally's and they're very nice without being extravagant. The Imperial Palace, Casino Royale and Tropicana are more downscale and more for budget travelers, which I usually am.

Well if you want the best of the best we have:
Bellagio
Wynn
Venetian
MGM Grand
Four Seasons
These can be pricey but if you look online you may be able to find good deals on them. You can't go wrong with any of these
Next we have:
New York New York
Aladdin
Monte Carlo
Luxor
Flamingo Hilton
Paris
Cesars Palace
The Rio
Excalibur
These are more moderately priced, but still very nice hotels. I think you would be very satisfied with any of these locations also. There are all pretty much in the same area (except the Rio is a little farther than the rest). But all are good choices.

The Bellagio is the crown jewel of Vegas. You should be able to get rooms there for under $250 per night. You can also try the Venetian across the street. The rooms are very nice, large and some have stellar views. The Venetian should run $200-250 per night.
If you're working on a budget, try the Monte Carlo. It's a very nice hotel, excellent rooms, and usually priced well under $200 per night.

I lived there for 4 years and got around the Hotels for their excellent buffets. You asked for something reasonable and very nice try the Excalibur, It's close to everything that you would want. It's on the Strip. Cheaper rates Sunday through Thursday
then the rates go up 2 to 3 times. As all Hotels do.

What are you finding for? on the strip? Downtown Fremont St? inexpensive? terrific strip lodges that should be extra high priced: Caesars Palace, Paris, Venetian, Mandalay Bay terrific off strip lodges: arms, Rio Fremont: Golden Nugget (has an amazing new pool) inexpensive: Imperial Palace (centrally placed on the strip), Harrah's, Sahara you do no longer unavoidably decide for a return and forth from the airport. There are lots of cabs and any hotel you reside at on strip would be no extra desirable than a $10 cab fare.
