I was just reading the description of the movie "Pumpkin" http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1807566980/details and I was just wondering if this ever happens in real life. Do "normal" people ever fall in love with mentally challeged people? And does it ever result in marriage or romantic partnership?
And no I'm not looking :P I'm already happily married.

This is an interesting question, I can only speculate. I would guess that while it's probably possible for a "normal" person to fall for a mentally challenged person, it seems it would be difficult to maintain a marriage/partnership this way. One would have to be a very unorthodox person with very unorthodox goals to commit oneself to basically taking care of their loved one for the rest of their lives. I just don't believe that most people could be that determined.

Some actually marry for love, but I think some marry to get the Social Security benefits.

Yes, it does. I know of two instances. Married for 37 years and married for 56 years. Thay are very happy.

No. People are dramatically rigid in how they self select not only their partners but everyone else around them based on IQ. Not only don't smart people marry dumb people but smart people have little contact with dumb people at all. It's common for them to not have any idea what dumb people are even like....that's how dramatic it is.
