What I used on my 2nd tat was stuff called Bag Balm you find it at walmart in the pet section. It healed real good and the color actually brightened.

When I got my first one, I used bacitracin or neosporin on it and didn't cover it up. I just dabbed it a few times a day with a cool wet soft washcloth and reapplied the ointment. Some tattoo shops have a tattoo balm to put on. I've had mine for over ten years now and they are still bright as ever.

Put Neosporin on it for the first day or two and after that you should put an unscented uncolored lotion on it. I used Curel. It has the blue cap. I can't remember the exact type but it worked really well. Also do not wrap it up. It will cause the ink to be pulled out of your skin and take longer to heal.

You should follow the tattoo artist's aftercare directions. If you don't and need a touchup and it is found that you didn't follow the aftercare, be prepared to pay for the touchup instead of it being cost free.

Neosporin works for the first couplke of days, but plain old Vasaline works best for the rest of the time and it is cheper. But whatever you do, don't use lotions with perfumes...it will burn like all heack! Good luck!
