A serious question. Looking at certain sites (non adult web sites), like optical illusions, funny videos, and t.v. shows from the 80's, I've found that if I click on an icon it loads up a page with explicit adult content. This has happened more than once and on different web sites. Although there are no small children in the house, it is still annoying and something I don't want to view. Why is this happening? Is it possible I have a computer virus? Should I contact somebody? What steps can I do to prevent this from happening? Serious answers will be considered only. Thanks.

I dont think that you have a virus. These links that open up are ads which support the content that you want to see for free. In most cases the jokes & stuff are free so the owners of the site need to make money to support the cost of web hosting & to make a profit....at our expense

What you can do, is as someone already mentioned, is raise the internet security levels [tools/internet options].

You could also download a free spyware/adware catcher [spybot.com] to clean up any cookies/adware/spyware on your hard drive.

Next when viewing such pages, be very careful what you click on, sometimes even hovering your mouse over a link can cause it to open.

What you can also get is a pop-up blocker which is really great. I got one from yahoo and it works like a charm.

If this is really a problem for you, then you might want to get Norton's Anti Virus & Anti Spam. Its going to cost you something but they are the best.
btw... the sites mentioned below, wont install spyware or adware ok.

ok so when you watch or do these thing a pop up comes up??
hmm is there any other persons in your house?
adult content pop-ups are usually because a person has gone to the site the pop up is from then getting a virus
ususally u shoulde either get pop up blcoker
or its from the site you go to
try this
go to google.com
and search optical illusion
instead of going to your site
youtube.com for 80's stuff
youtube.com for funny stuff or stupidvideos.com
yea hope this helps
