The comparative advantage, of course, was CHEAP LABOR.
Unfortunately, cheap labor doesn't always translate into lower prices for American consumers. About ten years ago an Indiana television manufacturer moved to Mexico, claiming lower labor costs would save them millions of dollars. Those savings were not passed on to the consumer. Their TV sets remained priced the same as always (and, after a while, actually increased in price). Meanwhile, the company enjoyed excessive profits, all of which went to shareholders and the chief executive officers of the corporation. The 'savings' costs hundreds of people their jobs, most of whom had worked for the company for twenty years or more, and were nearing retirement age. Instead, those people had to find new jobs (at lower hourly wages) and found themselves unable to retire with any comfortable pension. -RKO-

EVERYTHING in the house is manufactured outside of my country (USA).
It's because Americans suck at making things lately.
Oh, we can INVENT things, but we usually let others perfect them.
Wait a minute. Underwear. My underwear is made in the USA. We still rule at underwear.
