Hi, I have a laptop with USB ports on it and recently, all of the USB ports just stopped working. I have a USB optical mouse witha PS/2 adapter also, what are some ways i can go about attaching a mouse to my laptop? even if it's not the same one i have now. Also, I have a 15 prong monitor port and a printer port, if i can connect a mouse to those. Please help, I can't do any work in 3D without a mouse! Thanks!

Also, I forgot to say that I have a PCMCIA port on the side of my laptop too. It's a SONY Vaio PCG-GRT100.

I can't get the USB ports fixed because their connected to the motherboard, so i would need a new motherboard....$400.

Unlike the other ID10T's that told you to get a PS2 adapter that you already have and cannot use.

I would suggest getting aUSB 2.0 PCMCIA card

It will slide in the type 2 PCMCIA cardbus slot. If your laptop does not have a PCMCIA card slot I think you may be outta luck there friend.

By all means try reinstalling the drivers for the USB root hub to try and resolve the issue before buying hardware that may or may not resolve your problem

If you have a PS/2 port, then you can use your USB to PS/2 adapter to connect the mouse. No drivers should be necessary, just restart your computer and the mouse should work.

If you don't have a PS/2 port and laptop's own USB ports aren't working, the only way to go is to get a PCMCIA USB adapter, such as this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00028JMWW/sr=8-2/qid=1154450424/ref=pd_bbs_2/103-0811767-2309410?ie=UTF8
It costs less than $20 and will get you not one, but two working USB ports.

Before doing that, however, I would suggest that you check if you have all the proper drivers for laptop's USB ports installed -- you can check that in Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager. Just right click on the Universal Serial Bus controllers, and click "Update drivers", and then allow it to use Windows update to search for appropriate ones.

They do make adapters that will let you plug a PS2 mouse into the parallel (printer) port. Check at Best Buy. Walmart or your local computer store. Look for a PS2 to Parallel adaptor.

Just buy an adapter that will use the universal port. the port that you would normally plug a printer into.

go to a computer store and ask the people there for a usb converter for ps2 mouse.
PS2 is not mean Play Station 2
But in computer is different.

first i would see if the USB issue is not a driver problem.
