rebecca_b, a tip for science questions (in homework and exams): Don't be scared of the terminology! Your teacher is not asking you a math problem. Your teacher is asking if you know what 'mitosis' means. If you do, then the question is trivial. If you don't, then asking for the correct answer (18) on Yahoo tells you *nothing*.
I say this because too many kids study science by thinking it's all about memorizing the right *answer*, when more likely it's about being able to understand the *question*. Then the teacher makes a small change in an exam (e.g. changing "18" to "28", or changing "mitosis" to "meiosis") and the student gets the answer wrong (because it is different from the answer they memorized) ... and they think "I'm bad at science". Some just give up science right there. Others go on to actually *hate* science, and then scientists. It's very sad.
Basic science is *not* that hard ... but you do have to learn a few words. But it's the same as anything you're interested in ... how can you learn music if you don't know what a "chord" or a "quarter-note" is? ... or understand soccer if you don't know what "offsides" or a "through pass" is?
BTW, I'm talking here about answering science questions (in exams and homework). Unfortunately this makes people think that science is *all* about memorizing terminology ... which is not true. This is an unfortunate side effect of how *all* subjects are taught in schools (it's all about passing tests). I wish it were different. But as long as you're trying to answer test or homework questions, I can only give advice to keep you from getting totally disappointed by using the *wrong* strategy (memorizing answers, rather than understanding the questions).

dude it has 18 how dumb are you guys. I might help if you read a text book ....or two. meoises is reduction divison so you would get 9. but mitosis is just a cell dividing...so i would want to divide with it's full ammount of dna.
