I sold an item on eBay. My auction page clearly states that if a buyer chooses to pay with check it will take 10-14 days for the check to clear. A buyer has paid me with a check. So I wrote and said as soon as check clears I will mail the item. Usually 10-14 days. He wrote a really nasty email back saying that was unfair and against ebay policies. That a check clears in 2-3 days. I have looked everywhere in eBay and i can't find anywhere that says that is against policies, most other sellers have the same policy and i clearly said in my auction that the wait time is 10-14 days. Is this unreasonable? Has anyone heard of a check clearing in 2-3 days? How do i avoid getting negative feedback? All help/suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You're correct, as check often does take that long to clear, this, of course, varies from bank to bank.
You terms are clearly stated in your auction and it's the buyer who is in the wrong not you.
You can't stop the buyer from giving you neg. FB but if it's unfounded, state your case to eBay and there's a good chance eBay will remove it. You have 90 days to leave FB so don't be in a hurry to do it, make sure check has cleared, item was received and buyer has left his/her FB. If they do leave a neg. respond with facts, no CAPS or name calling. Other sellers/buyers can see both sides of the picture and will realize that this is just a case of a mis-informed buyer complaining about nothing.
There's a great place in eBay where you can get advice about what to do when stuff like this arises....go to >community<, >answers< and then >buying< or >selling<....also, I would put this buyer on your Blocked Bidders List A.S.A.P. You don't need people like this buying from you.
Good Luck!

On October 28, 2004, the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act, "Check 21" went into effect. It doesn't take 10-14 days to clear anymore. It's more like 2-3.

Doesn't sound unreasonable to me. There are ways to contest the feedback. If it clearly states in the auction that personal checks will take 10-14 days to process, then they have no right to complain.

I think it does take about that long, but you'll get people on there who are never happy, who will say they didn't get your item or say that it came damaged and open up a dispute with paypal and then you have no tracking number because it wasn't a real high priced item and then you get screwed. You have to be careful of people on there, they expect the world even if they only handed over $2 to you. But in this case you're in the right.

People get weird when it comes to their money on ebay. I sell often and some chics are straight rude when I wait for their check to clear. I offer paypal but they would rather be a b!itch and write a check. Whatever. You are right, make sure that sucka is legit!!!
