I have seen most recently examples of the Homesteaders act in places such as Wyoming, Alaska, and both Dakotas. You may also want to investigate Louisiana.

there use to be [[[home-stead properties]]] available in north dakota-in the mountains....but---you have to be a leagal resident of the united states for an alotted amount of time---
you stake off your claim-check with the land office to make sure you are not claim jumping..if its allright you build a dwelling the first year[with a mailbox]-then you make one major improvement every year for five years...after that you only have to pay taxes!!!pretty cool huh???its a harsh climate in those mountains, but it is beautiful country...

No where. All land is owned by someone, corporation or government

Someone may give you land - but it will definately come with some strings (i.e. requires toxic cleanup)
