Although you can be held responsible for the balance of the lease, the landlord has an obligation to make a good faith effort to re-let the property. In most cases, the courts will hold this to be 2 months. If the landlord opted to completely renovate the property over a 10 month period, that would not be a good faith effort.

Get an attorney to defend this. You should be limited to 2 or maybe 3 months worth of the rent in most cases.

Hmm... It looks like you are responsible for the accelerated rent. If you signed a 1year lease and moved out after two months, you are liable for the full term of the lease. Regardless if they remolded your apartment.

It also sounds like you were in the process of eviction, so you are also responsible for the back rent if that was never paid... Good Luck!

Check the statute of limitations. You may be in the clear. You have to do the work and respond to the suit for that reason.

If you still have the court papers requiring you to move, you should win.

unless you got a release from your lease from the property owner then yeah more than likely. courts don't generaly look at a tennants circumstances for breaking a lease they just look at there was a legal binding agreement that was broken..
