Well, V for Vendetta is available as of today to rent :)
I know most peeps either loved it or hated it but I really enjoyed it. It had a great plot, the acting was great *esp from Hugo Weaving* and the action kicked butt

"Excalibur" was an interesting take on the King Arthur story. "Sideways" is a good movie on wine tasting--hehe. "Basketball Diaries" good on the scariness of teen drug use. "Clerks" good college disillusioned humor. Of course, "Braveheart" does show some barbaristic scenes, but then again, the award winning fight scenes in the "Lord of the Rings" does, too.
Not sure what barbarian invasions is--is it something on History Channel?
Who didn't think "benchwarmers" sucked?

This is a great site for finding out just about anything you could want to know about movies:
http://www.imdb.com/
There is a category in the column on the left to find out what movies are popular right now, for example.
