Do both! Cover your bases. Swimming will help you loose and soccer will firm you up. Swimming will develop your upper body and soccer will tighten your lower body. Both are good for cardio which is good for loosing weight!

Actually soccer would most likely be better if you're looking to lose weight. Swimming is one of the best overall exercises you can do for your entire body but it has been found to not really aid in weightloss.
"Research published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine shows that in the absence of a controlled diet, swimming has little or no effect on weight loss [1]."

SWIMMING!!!!
I'm not talking about just wading in the water and splashing around. Try endurance swimming or competitve swimming to lose weight. You'll be working out all the muscles in your arms, legs, and even your lats and abs. It's really good for getting rid of any extra flab hanging off your tummy or thighs. A couple of my friends who do competitive swimming have really strong muscles and abs which gives them speed and agility to do well in other sports like track. Soccer mostly works out your legs. And the cool pool water will cool you off when you get hot and sweaty, so you'll be sweating, but you won't be able to feel your sweat.

both are very positive ways to get into great shape and lose weight. If you STRICTLY want to lose weight, then playing soccer for a significant amount of time (1-2 hours) might be the better way to lose weight, but swimming gets your entire body toned better than soccer does. However the cardiovascular benefits acheived from both are very simple, honestly, it doesn't matter.

SWIMMING HANDS DOWN!!!!
believe me, i use to be a swimmer
i still do it once in a while, i have never gained weight in my life
it is proven, a fact that swimming is the most complete work out.
It helps your muscles, your skin (sweating), your bones, your cardiovascular system, and it relaxes you.
Its just a complete work out, try it.
see it this way,
if a soccer players swims three laps in a pool, he'll feel like dying, because he is just used to using his legs, and not all his upper body.
if a swimmer runs three laps, he will feel hardly anything, he's body is much more used to complete exercises.

Both are different...soccer you run more, therefore burn more sweat, but in swimming you work the upper part of your body more. I'd prefer swimming, or doing water aerobics, much cooler!

really depends what you mean by "better" ....
swimming is low impact on joints and works the whole body but doesn't burn calories quite as fast.
soccer means you're running around a whole lot ... it's a darn good calorie burner so the weight loss is more apparent but you could get hurt ..... especially if you're playing with zidane!
have fun! :-)

How about play soccer while swimming......hmm..........
.......probably not.
But which ever one you like doing the best you will probably do more of causing you to lose weight. Or which ever one you have the oppurtunity to do you do.
