Do people in the UK like Beckham as much as people in the US do??? (I personally think he's way over rated but he's the only player that gets any attention in the US)

Put it this way his head is stuck up his own a*rse with all of the 'brand Beckham' thing which makes me sick.

He used to be the best crosser and passer of the ball but that was 5 or 6 years ago. His better days are behind him and he knows this as he jumped from the English captaincy before he was pushed. Also it's difficult to get behind the hype of some of the English players as we've been told that this is the 'golden generation' but they choked AGAIN in a penalty shoot out.

I know that the England boys incl including Beckham wanted to win it badly but they had to back this talk up with answers and that never happened.... it says it all when Owen Hargreaves was many pundits choice as the best player as the world cup.

In the US yes but doesn't that tell you something US is not big on soccer, so the only reason he get all of this attention is because of his wife.
I think if you are a soccer player and you are famous only in the US that's not a good thing, you need to be famous in other countries too because they are the one who watches soccer. and buys the product you sell, and seriously for someone who gets paid that much how come England hasn't won a world cup since 1966.
so yes over rated is the word.

"Davide" Beckham is a player I have never heard of. If you mean Gayvid (he tried to spell it "David" but that's just a cover) Beckhamster, he is loved in the UK as they love metrosexuals as much as Americans do now.

He's way overrated but if you look cute in soccer, you get the props.

David has become known in the US for the same reason that he never achieved the true potential that he could have as a footballer and that is because he became more interested in promoting "brand Beckham" than concentrating on football.
Although this has caused his football to suffer it has raised his profile enormously as well as filling his pockets.

to answer to first part of your question; I am indifferent to him. I have met him. He seemed nice enough.

Well he is a hot looking football player and a very good comercial for everyone that has him in the team.. When Rmadrid order T-shirts they order few for each player and arround 30000 of Beckham's. What more you want ?

I think he deserves all the attention he gets. And he's not over rated. He used to play much better while being in Manchester United. His playing for the national team is great too! But for Real Madrid... I don't think he actually tries to play well in the Spanish grand...

ask anyone on this site who actually still plays any decent level of football ( like i doo) if they would have him in thier team and all HONEST answers would be yes !
as for the publicity - he gets some bad press but also takes a lot of the pressure from media of the less experinced and younger players. has been a good servant for his clubs and country but has now realised his body is not able t cope with the rigours of national captain and done the honourable thing - good luck to him!
NOW his misus: thats a diffrent problem.......

Your right - he's way over rated. Most people in the UK who have an informed opinion would agree. Kids and gals think he's great still.

He was once a great player but his endorsements and sponsorship etc have overtaken his love of playing football.I for one am glad he stepped down as the national captain and wish he would go the whole hog and retire from the game altogether..

he is the only player who gets attention in the us because he is constantly working on his publicity, because of his wife....it makes him a lot of money.....as for being overrated, yes he has been one of the best passers of the ball ever but THATS IT!!! so yes you are right.....for a decent player have a look at steven gerrard or ronaldinho...not as nice looking but better with a ball!
