I wanted to buy my nan a £30 perfume but she didn't want it. She said she might smell like a flower garden but at her age she's not going to attract any bees. She settled for lavender soap.

That is so cute. She may attract bees at her age with her sense of humor.
If she is more comfortable with lavender soap, then let her have what she wants.
You may try to get her a very small bottle of perfume and see if she uses it at all.

It depends on what you mean by 'hopeless'. The whole idea of giving presents is to make someone happy. If your Nan prefers lavender soap to an expensive perfume, then give her the soap. If you give her the perfume and she does not use it, then both of you will feel bad.

My grandma liked lavender too, especially the soap. She didn't like the "over the top" smell of some perfumes. Yep, LOL, they're sweet but hopeless.

Ha me ma is the same when I wanted to treat her to a really expensive lunch for her Birthday she wouldnt have any of it.
She made me take her to a cafe instead insisting it was what she preferred.
All you can do is respect their choice and try not to be too annoyed.

great aint they ? my nan lived till 95 in a house with no central heating double glazing and she only had 1 kidney ! no fuss at all !

I guess it is better to buy her something that you know that she will get some use out of rather than spending your money on something that will never be used.
