Excellent question.

Since the U.S. military is currently mainly engaged in an action that is so clearly contrary to the nation's interests, and under the command of a person whose loyalties are so questionable, I am fairly certain that I would not, at least without some absolute guarantee that my efforts would be put into helping the United States and not attacking them. I am not willing to nor am I obliged to join in a war largely aimed against the Americans who oppose the right wing agenda. Opposition is patriotism.

You can expect that there will be no serious call for a draft as long as the conservatives are in power, because that is the one thing most certain to wake Americans out of their lazy stupor about this whole mess and change the status quo. The Republicans would obviously rather lose on the battlefield than lose control of the government.

If Democrats do take significant power this fall and in 2008, you may hear conservatives open up somewhat to a draft, but I think it's still an extreme longshot.

The fact that there is no serious call for a draft is a very telling sign of how seriously the right really takes this fictional "war on terrorism". For a better understanding of what really motivates it, take a look at the source listed below.

Would I join the military if drafted? Yes, I would now. There was a time when I would not. Would I want to go to war? No. But I think it's important to be prepared to defend your country. I would do everything I could to avoid fighting in an unjust conflict for the benefit of some politicians' business buddies, but that is part of the gig sometimes. You just have to make sure you keep your honor, and respect the citizens of whatever country you end up in. You can learn from them, and hopefully help them, and try to build bridges and see the similarities between your society and theirs.

If they do draft me they better give me a bullet proof vest with a m-16 fully equipped with a grenade launcher with 4 grenades, 20 clips for the m-16. The m-16 must have a sniper scope and laser pointer. I must also have a dessert eagle with 7 clips for it. If they don't give me those I rather take 25 to life.

Gee, Larry, did a draft get instituted while I was in the can? Last I saw, we had an all volunteer Armed Force.

How could you live in this country and enjoy all of its freedoms, and not go when you are needed. I see by the some of the answers that we have some cowardly fools in this country who don't think about the freedoms that we enjoy and that others should enjoy. Nice to know that most people aren't like that.

I would rather go to JAIL for skipping the draft than go to fight for our bastard of a president.

Of course, I'm a chick, so I wouldn't be drafted.

Yeah, I'd serve.

I'll be in the Ohio Army National Guard anyway, once I graduate from HS :)

As opposed to jail or running like a bedwetting liberal to Canada? Yeah, I'd go.
