English is a world lanuage. They have spent time effort and money in making sure everybody undrstands it. So it is only fair that we say immigrants in America need to speak English. Because USA gives green cards and citizenship. Saudis cannot demand the same thing because expat is treated differently than a so-called native so you dont have a locus standi to ask that they know Arabic.

Far, far too many - Aprox. 53%.
Hearing English spoken in a Los Angeles resturant is now the 'exception' not the rule......and that is a shame !
What is worse is that the local officials would sooner issue new "STOP" signs in five languages than correct the situation
in our schools.

Depends on if you mean the population as determined by the census bureau, or if you mean the real population, counting all of the illigal immigrants.
If the former, probably 50%. If the latter, probably closer to 65%.

I remember that the statistic for California is about 40%, so L.A. is almost certainly somehing higher than that.

Have you ever been there??!! From experience, it has to be AT LEAST 60%. When I lived there, at times it seemed as if we were living in another country.
