have on the way our young girls see themselves? What do you think we can do to counteract the things they see and hear in movies, magazines, and commercials?

Media absolutely affects young girls' self images. I think the best way to counteract the potential harm the media can cause is to let them know that what they are seeing in magazines, tv, etc. is not reality. Everyone has flaws and there is no such thing as a perfect body, face, smile, etc. If girls are taught at a young age to understand that the media portrays a unrealistic and impossible to achieve image of women, we could stop the negative cycle.

Media is a powerful influence, and mostly negetive. We can limit our kids exposure and lead by example. Parents are still the biggest influence in their kids lives, including media.

become a teacher. or any job that works with young girls and give them alternative viewpoints.
