I think they're great. It's so stupid how fickle people are. Hoffman is the greatest relief guy in the game; people just assume that when it's Trevor time that he's going to make the save. He misses a couple of gmaes and people talk like he's a goner!!

They might be contenders to make the playoffs, but the WS is not even a possibilty. The Cardinals will spank the Padres all over the field even if Pujols is the only player to show up. Hoffman sucks now by the way.
Go Dave Roberts!!!!! You'll be remembered, but not for being on the Padres!

They might not make it into the playoffs, especially considering Peavy has done nothing (disappointing) and they lack a real power hitter since Giles decided to lose the capability of hitting the long ball. I think Arizona will squeak it out and the Padres won't be close to the WC.

Anyone can win the NL West. Heck some college teams could win the NL West. It's just not a very powerful division.

Padres will contend for NL west title but they won't get past first round of playoffs if they make it that far. Nobody will beat the Mets or Cardinals but each other or the AL

Like the 1st answerer said, although he obviously doesnt know directions, anyone is a contender in the NL west. The Dodgers picked up Maddux and Betemit, so it will be interesting to see if they will do any better. They might win, but it will be close. There's no definite winner in this division.

Pretty much everyone is a contender in the national league weather you have a winning or losing record. However if they some how make it to the world series they will get blown away in 4 games by whatever team represents the American League.

They have as good a chance as any to win the NL west, but they don't have what it takes against the Cardinals or Mets. And its not like anyone in the NL can beat any of the Red Sox/Yankees/Toronto/White Sox/Twins/Detroit

I think they are contenders (they're in first place for cryin' out loud), but they aren't the best team in the NL.
