If a friendship is one sided, it is not really a friendship. For something to be a true friendship, I think both parties need to bring something to the table that helps the other person. There is "give and take"...each person's strengths are given freely to the other person...and the other person readily accepts the advice, help, love, etc. I think true friends recognize the differences and nuances in each other and respect and admire those differences...without being overly critical of the weaknesses.

The qualities of true friendship is when you can tell that person (anything) and never have to worry that they will ever betray ur trust and tell anyone else in the world. Being able to laugh together and at each other,never judging or looking for bad things in each other, listening, standing up and by you thru everything,but most importantly being honest with each other no matter if the truth hurts the other or not. That's what true friendship is and I'm lucky enough to have a true friend in my life. If friendship is one sided it's not really a friendship.

Yes, I think MOST friendships are one-sided.
and
Yes, most true friendships SHOULD BE give and take but it hardly ever is.
Qualities of true friendship? That's difficult. I guess I'd say:
* Trust
* Being compatible (e.g. having the same sense of humour, same likes/dislikes etc.)
* Being there for each other (both sides)
* Being caring
* Being understanding
* Being non-judgmental
* Honesty without being hurtful
I think friendship is what it is, a relationship, be it between man and woman, woman and woman, man and man, whatever, it's a relationship and it needs the same type of care and work that an intimate relationship would.

First of all, let me say, that my best friend and I have been friends for over 17 years and we are both 33 years old! We have had our ups and downs and even some times when we didn't talk, but we got over it and everything has been great! We both got pregnant at the same time, had almost all of our children at the same time and everything she goes through, I have been through and everything that I go through she has gone through, so we are a complete balance of what is needed in a true friendship!
She is never too busy for me and vice versa! We talk everyday and email and share just about everything with each other! I know that if the need ever arises I would die to save her and she would do the same for me!
So the answer to your question is this:
A friend will call you when they have a problem or they want to talk about themselves!
A TRUE FRIEND WILL CALL YOU TO TALK ABOUT YOU AND YOUR PROBLEMS WITHOUT ANY REGARD TO HERSELF! A TRUE FRIEND IS ALWAYS THERE NO MATTER THE TIME DAY OR NIGHT!
I hope that this helps you and that you will find a true friend like mine! She is one of the most precious gifts in my life! Good luck and God bless!

I believe they are based on give and take equally. There has to be a middle of something, where two people can easily relate to. They need to know they can give and they will get something too. That's true.

well some are equally give and take friendships.my best friend named ashia is an example of this, but a little different.she dont give rides to places,but receives them,and she takes clothes from people, and lie and say that somebody else did it. and this is not an equally friendship,and i think it should but she is a suck-up to everybody so if you want a friend like this e-mail me at sweetums_14.1992@yahoo.com,peace.

A true friend is someone who knows EVERYTHING about you and loves you the same no matter. It is definately a two way street as far as giving and taking, just like any relationship.
