that's ridiculous. I'm in Mississippi and grew up in Louisiana. everyone in the south is not racist. To think so, is incredibly small minded. I am not in any way, racist. And though I know people who are....those people are older people who grew up in times of segregation...and as the old saying goes..."you can't teach an old dog new tricks". They don't know any better. The south is just like every other part of the country...educated, friendly, and full of history. Some of our history is better left in the past, yes, but, we learn, change and grow just like everyone else. If you feel that way while visiting the south, perhaps it is YOUR views that need to be changed.

Racism is everywhere. The South does not have a monopoly on it. Slavery was abolished quite some time ago. We can all do our part to give credit to other people no matter what their color and treat them well.
With all the wonderful things about a city like Atlanta, why in the world would you pick racism to dwell on? The Civil War ended a while back....

Because the south is still racist. Not lynching racist but a lot of the smaller towns aren't used to the intergration and still hold racist viewpoints. The thing I like about the South though, is that you'll know if someone's racist for sure. They don't hide it like they do in the North.

As long as we continue to see color instead of human beings there will be prejudice in this world. With prejudice we give ourselfs the right to see the dark human as slaves, the red humans as savages, and so on.
The Lord did not say let the white human come into the kindom of heaven but all the humans no matter of thier color. I fail to understand how the Southern Religious Groups can preach the bible and still condemn particular races or creeds.
Start with you and look at your fellow man for his attributes and not what those who are bigots want you to see and feel.

Maybe this is a little harsh, but everyone just needs to get over it. By asking about racism and saying it is still alive, you're only bringing it out even more.
