ways to sprain your hand? or at least injure your hand? (see details)?

no, i am NOT a masochist. i have a very big piano exam that is comming up in two weeks, and i am not ready, and will fail even if i practice 10 hrs everyday from now until my exam. so basically, i will loose $200, unless i have a medical reason for not being able to play the piano (i.e. sprained hand) along with a doctors note. any suggestions? if anybody was less damaging ways to get me out of a piano exam, ill be very thankful.

k, my mother signed me up for this exam at the end of june. this is THE big exam. generally most people take 1 year minimum to prepare. i only had 5 months to learn everything. i told my mother that i wasnt going to be ready, but she didnt listen to me.
the moment school ended, i have been practicing at least 4 hours a day, 7 days a week. so, sous_lepointmirabeau, unless you play piano which would mean you already know this, practicing 10 hours a day is enough to kill someone. same goes to you brian. this piano exam was not my idea, and i applied myself as best as i could while having a part-time job.
the point of having a hand injury is to ge my exam extended until january.

You don't have to hurt yourself. Just tell the doctore that it hurts to move your thumb silly.

Does anything look wrong compared to the same other finger on the other hand? If so, try letting it heal for a while. I'm not sure how long, but if it doesn't heal over a few days, then it could be sprained. Try getting an X-ray if it's very serious.

Injuring yourself is not the way out...sprains can be very painful and take an awful long time to heal, and you could have recurring problems with your hand for the rest of your life.

And I somehow doubt that you will fail if you practice 10 hrs every day...if you really did practice for 10 hours (or more!) every day until then, you would probably pass.

My advice is to take the exam, even though you know you may not be ready. Why? Your mother seems to want to be able to say "my daughter took this important piano exam when she was only _____years old, but she has not put any thought into what is actually required for you to take it! If you fail the exam it will be her loss not YOUR failure. I am guessing you love to play the piano, so why take chances on injuring your hand permanently because your mother would not listen to you?

I was kicked across the joint between the thumb and the hand 4 years ago in karate class (sparring), and think I hairline fractured the joint. A year later I had finally recovered full activity, when I was shoeing a horse and got kicked again, re-engaging the injury. It has been 3 years now that I do not have full strength in my hand (noticable when I am kayaking, trying to work with something like rope, or giving deep tissue massage). My feeling is that the wrong kind of injury may not heal enough for you to retain full motion necessary to play piano in the future.

You're on colorful girl, try jumping from the roof of you're house, or falling off a bike. You can even punch your hand with the side of your hand to spring it, but you must do it swiftly and hardly.
I do not suggest this though, very painful . . .

You probably should have prepared for the piano exam. If you're not going to be ready to perform when during your exam, then -- surely with a sprained wrist, you won't be able to practice, and improve. Maybe you should have applied yourself, a little more.
